Pressure campaign works on CalSTRS: Teachers’ pension fund to give an update on meeting with war profiteer General Dynamics.

In April, CalSTRS met with war profiteer General Dynamics. Next month, thanks to your continued pressure, we will receive an update from CalSTRS on the outcome of the meeting.  As CalSTRS prepares to meet this month, it is crucial that they continue to hear your voices. Send them an email and alert your local newspaper about this important campaign by sending a letter to the editor.

With your support, we have been able to move CalSTRS to investigate its investments in weapons manufacturer General Dynamics. This is a huge victory! We have mobilized CalSTRS members up and down California. Read the case study: Mobilizing teacher pensioners to divest from war to learn more about this campaign. CODEPINK campaigners are also available to speak to your students and faculty. Book a speaker by sending an email to Carley.

Earlier this year, we petitioned CalSTRS to make them aware that General Dynamics is partly responsible for the innocent lives lost in Yemen and that the company’s arms sales only contribute to the ongoing conflict and humanitarian crisis in the region. In the coming months, we will launch a similar campaign around the California Employees’ Retirement System (CalPERS). We are in for a long fight, but we’ve already seen what a difference your voice can make so we need you to join us!
