Veterans for Peace Poetry Reading
Saturday, March 21st 2009 5 pm
Saturday, March 21, 5 - 7 PM

... searing raw-whisky poetry by military veterans from World War II to Iraq.

Through poetry, prose, and song, Post Traumatic Press 2007 tells the stories of veterans with direct experience of the military. For some, the intense experience of war can only be expressed in writing, while others are driven by the need to say something openly political. The book includes veterans from World War II, the Cold War, the Vietnam War, peace time and the current wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Reading their own work are, Camillo "Mac" Bica Thomas Brinson, Marc Levy, Walt Nygard, Jim Murphy, Jay Wenk, Dan Wilcox, and Dayl Wise.

Book proceeds to Veterans for Peace.

Hosted by Melissa Tuckey.

RSVP  • Mother's Day for Peace Vigil
Saturday, May 9th 2009 1:00 pm
Event Website: http://www.mothersdayforpeace.com

Full Schedule of Events: http://codepinkalert.org/article.php?id=4792

From Toronto, Tuscon, Schenectady, NY and dozens more cities and towns around the world, mothers, veterans, nurses, students, lawyers and businesswomen will flock this Mother's Day weekend to Lafayette Park here for a 24-hour vigil to honor women living under occupation worldwide, hosted by CODEPINK and co-sponsored by the National Organization of Women, MADRE, the Feminist Peace Network and nearly 34 other human rights organizations.

The women and their families, who from 1 p.m. May 9 to 1 p.m. May 10 will participate in workshops, a children's fair, discussions with women who've lived in war-torn countries, a colorful march around the White House and a radical act of knitting using 6,000 squares knitted by women worldwide (read more about that here) will reflect on the original purpose of Mother's Day, a Civil War plea to mothers to peace.

Saturday's events will also include a concert by independent rocker Melissa Ivey, and on Sunday, CODEPINK will host a powerful interfaith service, creative actions and more. All events are inspired by abolitionist Julia Ward Howe's Mother's Day Peace Proclamation. RSVP  • USS Liberty Memorial Service
Monday, June 8th 2009 Noon
This is an urgent appeal to get involved on June 8, 2009!
Please forward this information to others for a big turnout!!

We are working with Ernie Gallo, President of the USS Liberty Veterans Association in order to force a thorough and unbiased investigation of Israel’s attack on the USS Liberty Ship on June 8, 1967 that resulted in the murder of 34 and the wounding of 174 crewmembers.

For decades, those aboard the USS Liberty were threatened with a possible ten-thousand dollar fine, Ten Years of Imprisonment “or worse” if they revealed the truth about this unwarranted attack. The cover-up of this unprecedented slaughter by Israel is considered to be the second day of infamy and is one of the most guarded secrets in US history by a number of Americans who committed acts of treason. Every American should know what happened, get involved and never forget!

You are invited and encouraged to participate by joining the survivors of the Liberty and others in Washington, DC – especially at the White House; by writing press releases for your local newspaper; by encouraging radio and TV hosts to discuss the issue with or without survivors; by notifying others in your community and encouraging them to participate; by airing relevant films in your community and on community TV; by calling and writing President Obama, Senators, Congressmen, newspapers, neighbors, et al.

Schedule of events on June 8, 2009 in Washington, DC:

12 PM, Arlington National Cemetery: The survivors, relatives and others will attend the annual ceremony at the Arlington National Cemetery that honors those who died in the attack.

3 PM United States Navy Memorial, 701 Pennsylvania Ave, NW, Washington, DC: For all to attend the dedication of a model of the USS Liberty Ship. There may also be an appearance by James Scott, the son of a surviving Liberty officer, a journalist and author of a new book, “The Attack on the Liberty: The Untold Story of Israel’s Deadly 1967 Assault on a U.S. Spy Ship.” This ceremony is hosted by the Presidential Commission on Remembrance.

5 PM AT The White House: Many of the survivors of the USS Liberty, their supporters, concerned citizens, reporters and others will be meeting at the gates of the White House to present for President and Mrs. Obama a painting of the USS Liberty Ship, a Liberty memorial jacket and a Liberty hat of the USS Liberty Ship. They will ask to meet with the President and plead with him to order a thorough and unbiased investigation of Israel’s attempt to sink the USS Liberty and kill all 294 Americans on board.

For ongoing information, please contact Fred Shepherd, Executive Director of Global Information Services, 336 Bon Air Center, # 441, Greenbrae, CA 94904. Phone 415-459-8738 and Cell 415-699-0703 from 9 AM – 10 PM, Monday thru Sunday. Email HYPERLINK "mailto:altencon@aol.com" altencon@aol.com. Website HYPERLINK "http://www.gisfilms.org" www.gisfilms.org. We utilize nationwide television to broadcast relevant films to educate and inform the uninformed and misinformed. Relevant films: “The Loss of Liberty,” “Dead in the Water” and “Cover Up: Attack On The USS Liberty.”

We hope to hear from you soon.

RSVP  • Annual Al-Quds Day Rally for Justice in Palestine and the Oppressed
Friday, September 3rd 2010 11:00 AM
WASHINGTON DC RESIDENTS SUPPORTING THE OPPRESSED

Annual Al-Quds Day Rally for Justice in Palestine and the Oppressed Everywhere

Washington DC Friday September 3, 2010 11:00am at Dupont Circle, Washington DC

Al-Quds is Arabic for Jerusalem, the Holy Land. Yawm-al Quds or Al-Quds Day is a day of solidarity with the oppressed Palestinians in their struggle against the Zionist-Apartheid system of Israel. Al-Quds Day also extends beyond Palestine to support all oppressed people in their struggles across the world. All over the world rallies and marches are held on this day, the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadhan in order to pledge solidarity with those seeking peace through justice.

As former United States President Jimmy Carter has stated in his book, “Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid”:

“When Israel does occupy this territory deep within the West Bank, and connects the 200-or-so settlements with each other, with a road, and then prohibits the Palestinians from using that road, or in many cases even crossing the road, this perpetrates even worse instances of apartness, or apartheid, than we witnessed even in South Africa.”

This day is an opportunity to stand in solidarity with the oppressed in their struggles all over the world, from Palestine to Iraq, from Congo to Honduras and from China to right here in our own backyards in the United States. On September 3, 2010 at 11 am, join us and other local community leaders and activists for this historical protest and pledge your solidarity with those seeking a just peace in Palestine and around the world.

RSVP  • One Nation Working Together
Saturday, October 2nd 2010 12:00pm
ONE NATION IS ABOUT REORDERING OUR NATION'S PRIORITIES TO INVEST IN OUR MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE — OUR PEOPLE.

We believe everyone deserves the opportunity to achieve the American Dream — a secure job, a safe home, and a quality education — but banksters and corporate lobbyists have made off with trillions of public dollars while small businesses can’t get loans and cities are laying off teachers, police, and firefighters.

In this time of economic crisis, it is easy for fear-mongerers to pit groups against each other and to find convenient scapegoats for the problems that plague us.

ONE NATION seeks to transcend our superficial differences and bring us together in a common quest for equal opportunity and justice for all.

IRAQ MEMORIAL TO LIFE
Tuesday, April 14th 2009 ongoing
This event will take place around the clock for the last two weeks in April.
The Iraq Memorial to Life (IMtL) is being born because your organization—and so many other organizations like yours—have been working hard for peace.

A powerful visual image of gravestones, on the National Mall in DC, will move Americans to end senseless death!

Thousands of memorial markers, carefully arranged will bring home the full extent of Iraqi deaths to the American public and its legislators. The grieving that has long been a daily part of Iraqi life will be memorialized in the large national display in Washington DC. Reactions to both regional and national displays will bring attention to the human suffering caused by the Iraq war.

We need your help to build this memorial for the American public to see. IMtL is asking your help to identify volunteers who can take the lead in creating markers. The first regional memorial will be built for the March 19-20th anniversary of the US attack on Iraq. The display will be in Olympia, WA. Markers will then be shipped to Washington D.C. for a collective display on the National Mall scheduled during the last two weeks of April.

We need your help with making markers! Please ask peace, church and community groups to commit to making 100 or more markers. Olympia, WA is making 2,000. See www.IraqMemorialtoLife.org for complete instructions on how to research, make and mail markers, resources on deaths, and information on non-profits providing vital reparations.
