Eyewitness: New Orleans
The Continuing Struggle to Rebuild

Eyewitness Reporter
Derrick Kikuchi - Recently returned from helping with grassroots reconstruction efforts in New Orleans

In February 2007, local activists from First Presbyterian Church of Palo Alto went to New Orleans to assist in the post-Katrina rebuilding efforts. They worked with RHINO (Rebuilding Hope in New Orleans) and Habitat for Humanity.

After the Federal government's abysmal response to the original crisis, reconstruction in New Orleans continues to rely to a great extent on non-governmental organizations and grassroots groups.

Through photos and poetry, Derrick will describe and reflect about the rebuilding projects they were working on and also the systemic challenges that still need to be addressed.
