Step It Up Riverhead

The Step It Up Riverhead rally is part of the National Day of Climate Action, a nationwide campaign called Step It Up 2007, which will see over 1000 similar actions taking place across the nation on April 14, 2007. The campaign is calling on congressional leaders to step up and take meaningful action on global warming by committing to reduce the nation's carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions 80 percent by 2050. The Riverhead rally will begin with a march throughout downtown, for which participants are encouraged to wear
costumes, play musical instruments, display signs or placards bearing messages about the importance of
action on global warming, or carry any other symbols they deem important for calling attention to this issue. The march will be followed by a roundtable picnic with yummy organic treats. Here we will discuss next steps: where do we go from here and what can we as community members do to make a
difference? We will share stories, concerns, information and ideas. We will use this opportunity to make connections with others in our community. Representatives from local organizations will share information about their work and tell you how you can get involved. No matter what your stripes, this is an issue that affects us all. The organizers respectfully request that participants walk, bicycle, take public transportation, or carpool to the event. Also, please consider bringing a lawn chair or blanket for the picnic, as, depending on the size of our group, we may outgrow the available picnic tables.
