Full Circle- The Epic Return to Trinity
Multi-Day Event
Saturday, July 16th 2005 11:00 am
San Francisco, CA USA

Almost 60 years ago a flame was kindled from the embers of the City of Hiroshima after the world’s first atomic bomb was dropped a civilian population in hopes of ending World War II. Three days later, a second Atomic Bomb was dropped on the civilian population of the only Christian City in Japan, Nagasaki. The flame still burns today and has become a symbol of hope for peace and a reminder that nuclear weapons must never again be used on civilian populations.

For decades Zen Monks have walked endlessly between Hiroshima and Nagasaki in hopes that their selfless sacrifice and prayers for peace will make Nagasaki the last city in the world ever to know the horrors of Nuclear War.

On July 16th, 2005 Zen Monks will bring the “Atomic Flame” from Hiroshima to San Francisco where they will be joined by Native Americans, and peace groups of all faiths for their final 1600 mile journey across deserts, over mountain ranges and through more then 250 communities as they walk from San Francisco to the Trinity Test Site in Alamogordo New Mexico, location of the first Atomic detonation. Once returned to its origin, the flame that has been kept for 60 years will be extinguished during a global television broadcast calling for an end to the threat and fear that we have lived with for four generations…

This epic walk for humanity begins on the northern walkway between Pier 35 and Pier 39, with the Tall Ship Nippon Maru as the back drop. The Japanese community from throughout California will be present, together with people from all over the world who will send off the Monks by walking together with them from Pier 39 to SBC Park. We are inviting citizens from San Francisco and the Bay Area to share this historic experience with hundreds of peace-walkers from all over the world as they journey to the Trinity Site. The walk is being filmed and will be shown throughout the world as part of a two-hour global television special.

Proceeds from the walk will benefit the Global Nuclear Disarmament Fund and will be used to destroy nuclear weapons and turn them into bracelets, sold to the general public to generate more money to secure more nuclear weapons to dismantle.

Location:
The northern walkway between Pier 35 and Pier 39, with the Tall Ship Nippon Maru II as the back drop. Pier 35, Embarcadero and North Point Streets San Francisco CA 94133
