* UFPJ Briefing Call on Afghanistan - Peter Lems *

This briefing call was made by Peter Lems, from American Friends Service Committee, to the UFPJ Afghanistan Working Group. Peter is the AFSC Program Director for Education and Advocacy on Iraq and Afghanistan. In December 2008, he travelled to Afghanistan to meet with AFSC staff and design the organization's program work for the coming year. In this briefing call, he talks both about his own experiences in Afghanistan, as well as what the prospects of an escalation of U.S. forces are for Afghans.

This briefing call was made by Sonali Kolhatkar. She is the co-author of Bleeding Afghanistan: Washington, Warlords, and the Propaganda of Silence.  Sonali is also host and producer of KPFK Pacifica's morning program, Uprising, based in Los Angeles. She has reported from major national political events and internationally from Brazil, India, Afghanistan, and the UAE. She is also the co-director of the Afghan Women's Mission, a US-based non-profit solidarity organization that funds the social, political, and humanitarian projects of the Revolutionary Association of the Women of Afghanistan.

The call was facilitated by Kelly Campbell of September 11th Families for Peaceful Tomorrows. Kelly is on the UFPJ Steering Committee and is also the co-convener of UFPJ's Afghanistan Working Group.
