Think Outside the Bomb (TOTB) National Tour Coming to Your City This Summer!
Building on the energy of our global movement during the just-concluded Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty Review Conference in New York City , Think Outside the Bomb (TOTB), the largest youth-led anti-nuclear network in the country, kicked off the Disarmament Summer campaign by launching its National Anti-Nuclear Tour!
Disarmament Summer is a series of actions and events around the country, amplifying the voices of communities impacted by the nuclear power and weapons industry. In New Mexico, despite a Navajo Nation ban, there are renewed efforts start uranium mining again. At the Los Alamos nuclear weapons lab, a new plutonium pit manufacturing facility is being proposed. (“Pits” are the cores of thermonuclear weapons.)
TOTB and its partners are organizing a permaculture, skill building encampment in New Mexico from July 30th through August 9th, to model the kind of world we want.On August 6th, the 65th Anniversary of the U.S. atomic bombing of Hiroshima we will take nonviolent action to build a nuclear free future!
Right now, the Think Outside the Bomb National Tour may be coming to your city! It is being organized entirely by volunteer youth activists, giving their summer to spread awareness about the devastating affects of the nuclear industry and building a movement for nuclear abolition. The Tour features a hilarious original puppet show explaining the consequences of nuclear waste, folk music performed by Tour organizer Rebecca Riley, and stories from Indigenous youth about their communities' experiences with uranium mining and nuclear labs.

Some Background Information
UFPJ, through its Nuclear Disarmament/Redefining Security Working Group, is working closely with TOTB to support the next generation of social change activists.
Despite his Nobel Prize for visioning a nuclear weapons free world, President Obama has recently asked Congress for “well over” $180 billion to modernize nuclear warheads and their delivery systems over the next ten years. This request was made in connection with his submission to the Senate of the new START treaty for ratification. The President had previously requested over $7 billion for FY 2011, including investments in 3 new bomb making facilities – in inflation-adjusted dollars, the largest nuclear warhead budget ever!
On the eve of the Nuclear Nonproliferation Treaty (NPT) Review Conference, UFPJ was a core organizer of three powerful days of action in New York City: the April 30 – May 1 International Conference for a Nuclear Free, Peaceful, Just and Sustainable World at the Riverside Church and the May 2 Rally in Times Square, march to the United Nations and Peace and Music Festival in Dag Hammarkjold Plaza, as well as the presentation to the NPT Conference of more than 17 million signatures (see p. 12) collected around the world, calling for negotiations on a treaty to eliminate nuclear weapons. For an article on the NPT Review Conference outcome quoting UFPJ’s Nuclear Disarmament/Redefining Security Working Group convener, Jackie Cabasso, click here.
While our government is busy playing politics with deadly weapons, it is up to the people to demand disarmament. Join Think Outside the Bomb in Disarmament Summer, and support youth organizing for a nuclear-free world!
