Resources For Base-Building

Now more than ever before, people want to talk about the role of our government and what we could expect from the Obama administration. We, as a movement, must listen to them and engage with them -- let's use this engagement with people as a means to educate them on the costs of war and how these costs are tangibly related to the economic crisis and the lack of resources in their communities.

Below is an ever-growing list of resources to help aid groups and individuals in doing the education work -- the kind that will help build the base of this new movement. Please check back often for updates.

UFPJ has created a number of resources for you to use in these efforts:

The National Priorities Project's 'Cost of War Tool'

This online tool is useful in pinpointing for people exactly how the cost of the war in Iraq is related, on a fundamental level, to resource-depletion in their communities.

The National Priorities Project's website is a useful tool for groups to find talking points on how war and the economy are inextricably linked together. We urge you to check out their website and find online tools, leaflets, handouts, etc., that could be useful for your group's work during this campaign.

The War Resisters League 'Federal Pie Chart'

The War Resisters League -- a UFPJ member group -- has created a very useful leaflet on how federal tax dollars being spent.

Media and Message

People For The American Way Foundation has put together this PDF file on how to best get out our message through the media -- what tactics to use, what message to make, what outlets to aim at.

Working With The Media

This pamphlet provides the do's and don't's of working with media personnel and gives tips on how to build relationships with the media.

Tips On Base Building

Self-explanatory -- how do we keep our base, how do we build our base, how do we mobilize our base.
