Sample email to Senate:

Subject: U.S. Troops Must Leave Iraq

Dear Senator,

If your Senator voted for the bill, start with this:
Thank you for supporting the Boxer, Feingold, Kerry plan to redeploy U.S. troops from Iraq. I urge you to strengthen your call for an end to the war and to promote an immediate withdrawal of U.S. troops.

If your Senator voted against the bill, start with this:
I am disappointed that you did not support the Boxer, Feingold, Kerry plan to redeploy U.S. troops from Iraq.

The U.S. Senate needs to catch up with the American public, the Iraq people and even the troops in Iraq, who all agree that U.S forces must come home. Many current and former military leaders are convinced that the situation in Iraq does not have a military solution, and our soldiers should come home.

United for Peace and Justice represents over 1,300 national and local peace groups and hundreds of thousands of people who all want Congress to step up to the plate and tell the Bush Administration that it is time to bring all our troops home from Iraq.

CONTACTING YOUR REPRESENTATIVE

Sample email to House of Representatives:

Subject: Congress Must Take Steps Forward on Iraq

Dear Representative,

On June 15, the House leadership responded to the peace movement's calls for a debate on the war in Iraq. They gave us a carefully orchestrated series of speeches on a bill that was pure propaganda for the war. The Republican leadership is so afraid of the antiwar movement that they refused to let even Republicans offer alternative proposals to the Bush policy. The only vote they allowed was on a simplistic piece of propaganda (H.Res. 861) in support of the war, freedom and the U.S. troops.

If your Representative voted against the bill, conclude with this:
Thank you for your vote in opposition to H.Res. 861. I urge you to work proactively to bring the war to a speedy conclusion.

If your Representative voted for the bill, conclude with this:
I am deeply disappointed that you supported H.Res. 861, and encourage you to reexamine your support of this disgraceful war without end.

WHY WE'RE ASKING YOU TO SEND THESE EMAILS MANUALLY

Recently, many congressional offices, in an effort to thwart spam, began requiring constituents to fill out a "logic puzzle" or to type in a random set of characters or a word to prove that their mail wasn't spam. Unfortunately, while blocking actual spam, these barriers also block legitimate emails from constituents sent via online advocacy tools like the one that we use. We are working on a solution to this, but in the meantime, we ask you to bear with us for now and send your emails directly through your congressmembers' online contact forms. It will add just a few extra moments to your effort, and it will ensure that your messages get to your congressional representatives' offices. If you would like to tell your elected representatives not to block your voice, please click here.
