From March 5-6 over 250 activists from around the country converged in Washington DC to participate in an historic event on the US-Saudi relationship and how those ties threaten world peace. United for Peace and Justice co-sponsored of the event and had several members of our leadership there to engage and support the efforts.codepink

What came out of the Saudi Summit was ultimately a pledge among participants, to join as a coalition to stop US weapon sales to Saudi Arabia and to end the current relationship that the US has with this consistent human rights violator– not ignoring the US’s dismal human rights record.

For those of you who were not able to attend the summit, videos of all of the summit panels are available online via the Real News Network. The Summit was also covered by Ben Norton in Salon.

Right now, CODEPINK is looking for someone to run their campaign targeting US weapons sales to Saudi Arabia. If you or anyone you know is interested in the position (based in DC), please send an email with information to Alli@codepink.org.

Please check out the attached letter by Reprieve to Secretary of State John Kerry and email Marwa@codepink.org if your organization would like to be a signatory. Also check out our CODEPINK website with petitions and resources to learn more about Saudi Arabia.

Acodepink2s CODEPINK stated in their follow up announcement: “We are thrilled to have announced the campaign that came out of the summit to end weapons sales to Saudi Arabia. The summit was just the start of a broad-based coalition effort. There is a lot of work still to be done, and we need all of you!”

A big thanks to CODEPINK for leading this effort!

Currently, UFPJ continues to participate in the monthly calls and work of the Coalition to End the US-Saudi Alliance.
