SECURITY MARSHALS TEAM DESCRIPTION

In the time honored tradition of protest marches and demonstrations, the Security Marshals are a proud and vital part of all large political mobilizations. We are not expecting any problems during the Peace & Planet rally, march and festival, but we need to be proactive to ensure that everything goes smoothly.

Most visibly, the Marshal teams protect the front line of any march and the stage of any rally, as well as monitoring and controlling all key areas of our event. However the Marshals protect the security and integrity of the entire mobilization. Marshals serve as the eyes and ears of leadership, and provide a friendly and helpful face to all participants, thus allowing everyone to remain safe and feel empowered by our collective activism.

Marshals also serve as a buffer between our participants and the police, right wing agitators and provocateurs. By maintaining the peace and preventing disturbances, we allow the mobilization to take place as planned, and as such, the media must report on our presence and our message instead of focusing upon any problems or confrontations.

We accomplish all this through non-violent, disciplined and coordinated team work. No one ever acts alone, or outside the principles of respect, integrity, unity and non-violence. No prior experience is necessary, as all Marshals will attend a special 3 hour non-violence / conflict intervention training prior to the march. We welcome everyone, but if you sign up for this team, your commitment is required and taken seriously.
